Since 2004, Faustino and Martha Bernadett have been focused on helping nonprofits that reduce disparities in access to education and health.
In honor of that, and to continue our GivingTuesday series highlighting worthwhile organizations that Faustino Bernadett and his wife Martha are proud to support, we highlight the Long Beach City College Foundation.
The Long Beach City College Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money to support the students and staff and to enhance the learning environment of the Long Beach Community College District. The LBCC Foundation fulfills this mission by providing funding for scholarships, programs, capital projects, and the emerging needs of our students.
Here are just some of the ways The Long Beach City College Foundation has supported its students this year:
The Viking Student Emergency and Basic Needs Fund
The Viking Student Emergency and Basic Needs Fund was established to respond to the immediate needs of students and student services. Whether the need is technology, food, housing, or any other obstacle that may impede the learning environment, the Viking Student Emergency and Basic Needs Fund helps to remove any barriers to education that a student may encounter. Since the onset of the Covid-19 crisis the Long Beach City College Foundation and Alumni Association have partnered with LBCC to support students in the areas of housing, food, technology, transportation, and mental health.
The African-American/Black Student Support Fund
The African-American/Black Student Support Fund functions on the belief that all identifying African American and Black students deserve an opportunity to succeed. This fund seeks to provide financial assistance for African American and Black identifying students to successfully navigate higher education in a safe and culturally responsive manner.
As a Long Beach native and alumni with degrees in math and chemistry, The Long Beach City College holds a special place of importance to Dr. Martha Bernadett. This month, Faustino Bernadett and his wife Martha donated $25,000 to The Long Beach City College Foundation to show their support.
