In this nonprofit spotlight, Dr. Tino Bernadett is highlighting Samueli Academy in Santa Ana.
Samueli Academy is a Public Charter School for all students. There are no tuition fees and students can take high school and college classes at the same time.
The idea for Samueli Academy started almost 20 years ago with Susan Samueli and Sandi Jackson, two local philanthropists and members of the board of directors of Orangewood Foundation.
Susan and Sandi were concerned about the low high school graduation rates among teens in Orange County, including foster care teens served by Orangewood. They decided to explore new educational opportunities for local high school students and research best practices around the country.
The mission of The Samueli Academy is to ignite the passion within all students to reach their greatest potential through a nurturing and innovative learning environment.
They do this by:
A learning environment that maximizes individual student attention
A staff that cares about the “whole” student
Work-based learning
College Readiness
State of the art technology for all students
Project-based learning
Exciting and fulfilling after-school programs
Why did Dr. Tino Bernadett choose to highlight and support Samueli Academy?
Faustino Bernadett M.D. and his wife Dr. Martha Bernadett founded The Molina Foundation in 2004.
The Molina Foundation is a national nonprofit organization focused on reducing disparities in access to education and health.
Since its inception in 2004, The Molina Foundation has worked with more than 2,500 organizations and schools towards this end, donating over 8 million books and hosting workshops and programs for educators and families.
The Molina Foundation works hand-in-hand with community-based organizations in vulnerable communities. They partner with preschool programs, clinics, schools, family service organizations, churches, and other civic organizations serving low-income and at-risk families.
They have a special focus on working with organizations which are making measurable impact in the lives of children and families which is what the Samueli Academy does.
